Restore default Microsoft Services on startup

Symptoms:
  • Cannot access the Internet
  • Device manager is blank
  • Network Connections window is blank
  • Ipconfig returns show 0.0.0.0
  • Ipconfig /renew returns: RPCSS errors; The dependency service or group failed to start
  • The taskbar is white
  • Cannot switch users
  • No audio

Should you experience these symptoms on your computer, you may check and set all default Automatic Microsoft Services back to Normal Startup.

Fix 1:

1. Click Start, click Run, type in 'msconfig', and then click OK.

2. Under the General tab, put a dot in the Normal Startup radio button. Click OK, and then restart your computer.

If the problem still persists, you can either run the attached batch file or go into the Microsoft Services Console, manually set some services to Automatic and start them.

Fix 2:

1.  Click Start, click Run, type in 'services.msc', and then click OK.

2.  Start these services:
  • Plug and play
  • DHCP Client
  • DNS Client

Note: If you are getting an error message that the Configuration manager is not running properly, ignore it.

***Make sure the Startup type are set to Automatic.

**To start a service, right-click the service name, and then click Start.

If all these services are started successfully, you should now be able to access the Internet.
